Full text of Britain’s King Charles’s address to lawmakers

Following the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's King Charles was formally anointed king on Monday. He then addressed MPs and peers.

The entire text of his address is reproduced by the GNA News Agency.

"My Lords and Members of the House of Commons," in its entirety.

"I am really appreciative of the Condolence Addresses from the House of Lords and the House of Commons, which so beautifully capture what our late Sovereign, my dear mother The Queen, meant to all of us.

"The previous Queen Elizabeth was, in Shakespeare's words, "a pattern to all Princes living,"

"As I stand before you today, I can't help but feel the weight of history that hangs over us and serves as a constant reminder of the essential parliamentary traditions that Members of both Houses dedicate yourselves to with such a strong sense of commitment to our common good.

"Our democracy's living, breathing instrument is the Parliament.

"This magnificent Hall's architecture and the relics of the Office to which I have been called provide as evidence of the age of your traditions.

The Sundial in Old Palace Yard marks the Golden Jubilee, the magnificent Stained Glass Window in front of me marks the Diamond Jubilee, and, so poignantly and yet to be officially unveiled, your most generous gift to Her late Majesty marks the unprecedented Platinum Jubilee, which we only recently celebrated. These tangible connections to my darling late mother can be seen all around us.

The late Queen's Wednesday journey from Buckingham Palace to this Parliament will be marked by the great bell of Big Ben, one of the most potent emblems of our nation around the world and located within the Elizabeth Tower, which was also given that name in honor of my mother's Diamond Jubilee.

"My Lords and House of Commons members:

"We are here today to remember The Queen's extraordinary career of selfless service to her peoples and nations.

"When she was very young, Her Late Majesty swore to serve her nation, her people, and to uphold the priceless values of constitutional government that are the foundation of our country.

"She devoted herself entirely to keeping this pledge.

She established an example of unselfish service, which I am determined to faithfully follow with God's assistance and your advice.
